Walking down
4th avenue
I’m on my way to go see you
To the subway
To the port authority bus terminal
It’s late at night
And though i know the way
I still get anxious approaching the gates
For something
For anything to go wrong
THE BUS NEVER CAME
NO THE BUS NEVER CAME
THEY SAID THEY HAD A DRIVER
DIDN'T KNOW THE DRIVER'S NAME
OH THE BUS
IT NEVER CAME

Moroni and Me
02:36
|
|||
I have set a course for adventure
Tiptoeing down the side of my driveway
Strolling casually into the darkness
Comforted by the roar of the beltway
Hear the sicadas up in the trees
And listen in to their conversations
Think of all the mean things they’d say
If they weren’t always so focused on mating
The streetlights don’t come on
And the headlights move along
And now it’s only dark around to see
I look up to the sky
To the temple’s glowing light
Just the moon, the stars, maroni, and me
I know the path I walk fairly well
And all the workout stations beside it
They got destroyed during isabel
But seem to have made a solid recovery
I hope no one sees me around
I’d be scared if I stumbled upon me
Walking aimless and capturing sound
A living breathing cultural nightmare
The streetlights disappeared
And my flashlight’s being weird
And I’m surrounded by creatures I can’t see
I look up to the sky
To the temple’s glowing light
Just the moon, the stars, maroni, and me

Blinky Light Hours
02:50
|
|||
When the evening sun has long gone by
When my eyelids begin to weigh down in front of my eyes
When the roadway’s open, it’s a piece of cake
There’s nobody around to see you make a mistake
I sing along to the music, for the words I know
I lurk on the roads and blast it with the windows low
I time my heartrate to the light of the radio towers
As I drift without a care, alone at blinky light hours
Well the sets were meh, but it was a good show
But now that it’s late, it’s finally time to go
And if you don’t have a way there, that’s just fine
There’s room in my car, and I think I can give you a ride
Talking back and forth about the places we want to go
Exchanging embellished tales about a guy we know
You drumming along on the glove box, with such great power
As we cut the empty darkness during blinky light hours

Learn Not to Burn
04:28
|
|||
Before I started producing this record
I cut my nails
I used the time to think about
The ways that I could fail
But I decided to silence those voices
To the extent that I can
And that’s shown me a new bright way
To the promised land
And I will go
To a place where I feel good
And I will go
And someday I’ll return
I’ll come back
And the skyline will give me a heart attack
I’ll lay low
And I’ll learn not to burn
I always love when the day turns to twilight
But I hate when it’s too soon
Cuz nowadays when I search for moroni
I just see the moon
I like to think that that he’s beckoning for me
From the end of his horn
But I haven’t heard that trumpet sound
Since the day that I was born
And I will go
To a place where I feel whole
And I will go
And someday I’ll return
I’ll come back
With my life in my backpack
I’ll lay low
And I’ll learn not to burn
When I’m finished producing this record
I’m gonna cut my hair
And on that day I’ll pay particularly close attention
To the clothes that I will wear
And I will have a photograph taken
As prove that I tried
To eek out something over the airwaves
Before the day I died
And I will go
To a place where I feel safe
And I will go
And someday I’ll return
I’ll come back
Give you the shirt off my own back
I’ll lay low
And I’ll learn not to burn
